Portfolio Site
I have been working on my Portfolio Site almost done, just need to add some elements to the Experiment section, namely javascript and flash oddities that I have created over time. Not yet happy with the layout, but then I never am. I have an idea using ice that might be interesting.
Home Office
F
inally finishing up the home office. The desks ar simple pine plywood tops, and cylender legs, but with a bit of staining to make them match the shelves we've picked up, they look pretty good.
We now have a nice L-shaped work space.
Just need to get some more comfortable chairs....
Working on version ???
Was home sick from work over the past two days, my body needed some rest, but my mind was still running around as usual. Came up with a few new ideas for my site, I've had the current version for a few months now, time to ditch it and try a new format.
Why the decision to change? Mainly Flash 5.0 is the culprit, finally a version that can do most of the things I want, or at least seems to do the things I want, but my wants do constantly change.......
One thing I want to add is a Photo Album view, which will only list entries that have photos attached, mainly so friends can find event easier. Actually I will probably have that as an optional filter......list only events......
Focus
Working at home today, need to concentrate on the discussion component for a site I'm designing for work. Essentially a newsgroup to allow scientistist to discuss various topics over the net.
The site is for the Windchill conference which will be a forum for deciding a new standard for the measure of windchill readings. Currently this based on the rate of heat loss from a container of water when exposed to different wind velocities at different temperatures.
I've had the logic figured out for a few weeks now, the tricky bit was allowing for the possibility of a single response being in multiple languages.. Worked on it for about 12hrs, but have things working how I want.
The researchers can reply to each other's entries, and view the site in two main ways :
- by response, i.e. start at the main level, see the responses to a post, view a response, see the responses to the current response and so on.
- by entry, i.e. shows all the entries in the discussion with the newest entry at the top of the list.
The site remembers which view the user has chosen and handles the next, previous buttons appropriately, i.e. show the next response to an entry v.s. show the next entry in the discussion.
Might make use of this on my own site.
Working overtime
Exhausted lately, to much work, to little time, hoping to get more people in to help, the problem is finding time to train them.
I'm working madly creating a site for the WindChill Conference being hosted by my work place. Not really that complex, more of a tight deadline issue, and the fact that it's an international conference, so have to plan for ultra low bandwidth connections, and old tech.
Other than that learning more about flash for my own use and for use at work, reading, reading, and more reading,
Fish
Finished up most of the tweaks for my site, got this fish added to the main page. They actually came from a previous version of the site where I had a randomly changing intro. That site still exists on my geocities account. For how much longer I don't know.
I also think I will need to limit my initial entries list to the top 15, and provide a popup link for the rest, starting to get a bit long for the journal and events sections.
My own domain
I finally got tired of Geocities, and looked around at various commercial providers.
I wanted a new tech toy, and this site is it.
